Chair rail molding is a protective and decorative horizontal trim typically installed on walls

to prevent furniture damage. This work replaces that architectural barrier with hair taken from my head and my son’s and carefully inserted into a very long wall. Hair protects the body and is often seen as beautiful when attached to a head, but once detached it becomes unsettling. By using it as a protective edge, the piece references care and discomfort, beauty and disgust.
